If you are reading this article, you may be aware that it is possible to ‘chat’ to other users on Facebook. To find out how to connect with other users on Facebook though its instant messaging service, read on…
1. Find online friends
Facebook Chat is already available on Facebook – you don’t need to install or download it. Simply go to the ‘Chat’ box at the bottom right corner of your Facebook page to see your online friends.
If any of your friends are online, they will be shown with a green circle next to their names. You may notice that some users have a crescent moon next to their names – this means that they are online but Facebook has not logged any activity of theirs for over ten minutes, meaning that they are likely not to respond.
2. Get chatting
Simply click on a friend’s name in the list of online friends in order to start a chat conversation with them. Any message that you type in the chat box can be read by them as soon as you have hit return – they can then reply to you.
3. Adjusting the sound alerts
If you friend responds, you may well find that the Facebook chat plays a sound through your speakers whenever they write something to you. In order to stop this, click on ‘options‘ above the online friend list and make sure that the box which says ‘play sound for new messages’ is not ticked.
4. Arranging the friend list
If you have a lot of friends, you may wish to check ‘show names only in online friends’ which means that online friends are shown without their profile pictures. This way more people can fit on the list without you having to scroll down.
5. Going offline
In order to exit Facebook chat, click on ‘options‘ and ‘Go Offline’. Once you have left Facebook chat, you will not be able to see who is online and they will not be able to tell whether you are on Facebook or not.
Facebook chat is a great way to connected with your friends on Facebook so that you can have a quick and private conversation with them when you are both online. As you can see, there are a number of different ways to adjust the settings to make sure that Facebook chat works for you.
