Most of us don’t give a second thought when it comes to choosing the right lamps. However, because of lamps’ functionality and ability to enhance a room’s appearance, they should always be one of the first areas to work on if you’re redecorating your home, regardless if you’re making major changes or superficial ones.
These types of lamps have my recommendation and would all look good regardless of what part of your home you plan to decorate.
Let’s start out with table lamps. Table lamps are wonderful for both decorating and functionality. They come in a variety of sizes and styles, and can really accent specialty decor pieces you might already have. For example, smaller table lamps look perfect when you put them on top of a pile of hardbound books, while the larger ones complement shrubs, knick knacks and keepsakes as well.
But you should not even be thinking about pairing a larger, bulkier lamp with a quaint and petite table. The lamp you would want to pair with the side table (especially if it is Victorian style) would be a hurricane or Tiffany table lamp, while the large lamp would look best on a larger, country-style wood table.
Floor Lamps. Floor lamps work best if you want to accentuate certain rooms in your home while adding more light. I’m an omnivorous reader, so I prefer them in my study. Now here’s a little trick that should hit the spot – how about placing a plush, comfortable chair in the corner, facing slightly away from the walls then placing a decorative floor lamp right behind the chair? This will create a cozy, inviting feel to the space while also providing extra light for reading, writing, or knitting.
Wall Lamps & Lights. And these styles can be quite interesting. Wall sconces, for instance, would be a great way to bring the cozy ambiance into your home, while recessed lights look good while giving much needed additional light to your bathrooms and kitchens.
One nifty arrangement I strongly suggest would to use wall sconces instead of the usual candelabras or candle sconces when decorating your walls.
Picture Lights. If you have more than a few paintings or pictures at home, then these lights would be what you need. They serve pretty much the same function as spotlights do, shining down mainly on your artwork. Most are very decorative, and they come in a variety of styles to match whatever your decorating theme might be.
Finally, we have the old-fashioned oil lamp. You can still find an oil lamp in most nearby stores. Buyer beware though, as some are replicas that merely look like old lamps but do not burn oil as the real article would. But there are others that do indeed burn oil. Most people use the actual oil burning lamps for decoration only, and you can even buy colored oil to fill the lamps for an additional decorative touch.
